Research

Research at WTD means developing innovative solutions for industrial services and testing them in practice. Together with partners from research, IT, and industry, we drive forward projects that combine digital integrity, smart service processes, and modern technologies in metal processing.

SealedServices

Infrastructure for the realization of industrial services in value creation networks in the context of digital integrity and sovereignty

SealedServices is a research project developing an infrastructure that enables secure and transparent industrial services in value creation networks. The focus is on digital integrity and sovereignty to create new standards in the service industry. The project is funded as part of the “Innovations for Tomorrow’s Production, Services, and Work” program of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and supervised by the Karlsruhe Project Management Agency (PTKA).

  • Funding reference: 02K18D130

  • Project duration: May 1, 2020 – April 30, 2023

  • Funding program: “Innovations for the production, services, and work of tomorrow”

  • Project management agency: Karlsruhe (PTKA)

Weldotherm WTD Wärmetechnischer Dienst GmbH is a partner in the SealedServices research project and contributes its expertise in the planning, implementation, and support of heat treatment work – particularly for power plant construction, mechanical and plant engineering, petrochemicals, shipbuilding, and other metalworking industries.
We provide significant support in the development and practical testing of internet-based services in the area of ”Physical Sealed Services,” are involved in the design of the SealedServices infrastructure, and are supporting the introduction of a digital life cycle record. Our core business, the performance of heat treatments, serves as one of two practical use cases.

GRIPSS-X

Smart tools for service-centric applications in value networks

The GRIPSS-X (GAIA-X-Ready Industrial Product-Service Systems) project is a research project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) within the GAIA-X funding area. It was selected from 27 applications and aims to develop smart tools for service-centric applications in value networks. The focus is on optimizing collaboration and coordination between multiple actors within these networks in order to reduce coordination effort and leverage efficiency potential. The developed applications are intended to improve processes and facilitate the integration of different industries and service sectors. The project thus represents an important step toward digitally networked and cooperative value systems that can be flexibly adapted to diverse industrial requirements..

  • Funding reference: 02J21D100

  • Project duration: November 1, 2022 – December 31, 2024

  • Part of 27 applications in the GAIA-X funding area

  • Supervised by the Karlsruhe Project Management Agency (PTKA)

Weldotherm WTD Wärmetechnischer Dienst GmbH acts as the application partner. The company contributes its expertise in the field of heat treatment and supports the planning, implementation, and monitoring of heat treatment work in various industrial sectors (power plant construction, mechanical and plant engineering, petrochemicals, shipbuilding, and metal processing). It plays a key role in the prototype development of the overall concept and complements it with its own perspective.
